Hernia repairs are incredibly common outpatient procedures, so keeping up to date on the latest ICD-10-CM and CPT® changes is crucial for coders. Being aware of anatomy and understanding various treatment methods is just as important. The 2023 CPT Manual included 33 modifications to hernia repair procedures, with around half of those being new codes. It also altered reporting guidelines.

During this 60-minute webinar, Shelley C. Safian, PhD, RHIA, HCISPP, CCS-P, COC, CPC-I, will examine changes to hernia repair codes and reporting guidance in the 2023 CPT Manual. She will also clarify anatomy, classify hernias, and explain surgical and nonsurgical treatment methods. The presentation will be followed by a live Q&A.

At the conclusion of this program, participants will be able to:

  • Identify details required in provider documentation to select the most accurate ICD-10-CM codes
  • Abstract procedure details to choose the correct CPT codes
  • Describe types of surgical and nonsurgical hernia treatment methods
  • Clarify the differences between the various forms of hernias
  • Explain the most recent changes to hernia repair reporting guidance
